During its annual ministerial meeting held on 18-19 October in Paris, ministers and officials of the IEA’s 37 member countries heard a very gloomy analysis of the world’s big energy challenges. According to the IEA’s World Energy Outlook 2011 (which will be officially launched on 9 November in London) the world is facing an expensive, dirty and climate-changing energy future.

Interesting to see the clash between the pessimistic analysis IEA ministers make and their continuing dreams that gas and technology (CCS) will be able to provide answers although they also admit that despite “promising signs that we are experiencing the early stages of an energy revolution based on widespread deployment of low-carbon technologies, current developments alone are insufficient to achieve emissions and energy security goals.”
